Kevin Kwan’s adult novel, Crazy Rich Asians, is the basis for the 2018
romantic comedy of the same name. It chronicles the trials of tribulations of a
Chinese-American Economics professor, Rachel Chu, who is shocked to discover that
her modest boyfriend, Nick, belongs to the richest family in Singapore. When he
invites her to attend his best friend’s wedding back home, she must come face to
face with Nick’s very traditional mother, who bristles at the thought of her
son marrying beneath his social class. If you liked this book and are looking

Chao, Gloria – American Panda
College
student Mei would love to major in dance, but her Taiwanese parents have
different ideas. Their vision of her future includes her majoring in medicine
and becoming a doctor, before settling down with the Taiwanese boy of their
choosing. This plan is complicated by the fact that Mei actually has a crippling
fear of germs, has developed a crush on a Japanese-American classmate, and is
struggling to reconnect with her brother, who was disowned for marrying a girl
his parents disapproved of. Recommended for Grades 8 Up for language.
